Indira and Mike Van Handel run, manage, and handle the breeding aspects of Jerland Farm.  Mike also handles all of the in house training.  To say that they have been known to wear many hats at the same time is an understatement.  "We do what needs to be done when it needs to be done, and usually three things at a time."

Both Indira and Mike have degrees in Animal Science from the University of Wisconsin.  That added to their combined years of experience in breeding and managing horses have lead them to an integral role in the Jerland operation.  This is the farm that Indira grew up around.  Her parents, Larry & Shelley Jerome are the proprietors of Jerland Farm and have made the farm a way of life for their entire family.  "It's very exciting to see my nieces and nephews being involved with the horses now and starting to go to shows.  It is something that my entire family gets involved in."  An accomplished rider and handler, Indira has garnered championships from such events as Scottsdale, Regionals, the Minnesota Fall Festival and the World Cup.

Indira met Mike back when Larry purchased MPA Giovanni.  Larry will be the first to point out that "sometimes when you buy a horse you get things included that you didn't know were part of the deal."  (ie a son-in-law)  At the time Mike was managing the breeding and office for Shada Inc.  Soon after, Mike made the move to Jerland and back home to Wisconsin.  "It's a different ball game here, Indira and I get to call some of the shots and overall it has been a building process.  When we started this venture there was a lot of potential, now we are starting to see that potential being realized.  The Jerland bred horses in the past few years are becoming major contenders.  One of my favorite things at shows is to hear people ask who the new horse is we're bringing out there.  They know that it might be a super star just starting."
